Broad Damsel Bug - Nabis flavomarginatus

Description

Length 7 to 9 mm. N. flavomarginatus is a large and distinctive nabid which has a broad body and rather short wings. The upper surface of the abdomen is densely covered in short golden hair. This bug is always brachypterous (partly-winged), the forewings reaching half the length of the abdomen.

In grasslands, particularly in damper habitats.

When to see it

Adult: June to October.

Life History

Adults lay eggs in summer which hatch the following spring; larvae may be found May-September. The new generation of adults appears early, from June onwards.

UK Status

Widespread and common in Britain.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
