Buchananiella continua

Description

A small (approx. 2.5 mm) brown, or reddish brown bug. Macropterous, shiny and covered with a rather long pale pubescence. Antennae longer than head and pronotum combined, brownish with ant2 paler at least in its basal half. Legs slender, pale, the basal third of the anterior tibiae and sometimes the intermediate ones more or less darkened. Pronotum strongly trapezoidal, straight lateral edges, longitudinal furrow across the middle.

Habitat

The species has been found under fallen or cut off branches of trees, especially sycamore, with the dry foliage still present. It has also been swept from Ivy which had been cut back and found under bark.

When to see it

All year round.

UK Status

Observed for the first time in Great Britain in London in 1995 it has since been recorded as far north as Yorkshire.

VC55 Status

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
