Doratura stylata

Length 3 to 4.5 mm. A striking deltocephaline with very short, somewhat metallic wings (macropters occur rarely). The vertex is sharply angled when seen from the side and has three large black spots around the edge. The face is also marked by two dark transverse bands. The female has elongated gonoplacs projecting from the tip of the abdomen, and the male terminal segment has dark spots.  

Detailed examination of the specimen is needed to identify this species.

Found in open grassy areas, often but not always in sandy or calcareous situations.

Adult: June to October.

Widespread in England, and also recorded in southern Scotland.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
