Microplana terrestis - Microplana terrestris
The land flatworm Microplana terrestis may up to 2 cm long when extended, but is highly contractile. It is round in section, unsegmented, shiny and dark, without any noticeable stripes or bold patterning, and with small eyes at the front end.
Damp places, under stones and logs.
All year round.
It feeds on dead slugs, snails and earthworms.
Our most common and widespread flatworm species, but not well recorded in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
