Snowdrop - Galanthus nivalis

Low to short plant. Usually with 2 leaves. Flowers white, solitary, nodding 12 to 25 mm long, the inner tepals quite different from the outer, shorter and with a greenish marking near the notched end. Anthers green. Damp woodland and copses.

January to March.

Perennial - Isolated plants are probably casuals and garden escapes.

Found in scattered localities throughout Britain, and often locally abundant when found.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 41 of the 617 tetrads.
