Spring-flowering Moschatel, an LNRS Indicator Species, is at its best right now. More...
Also known as the ‘Town Hall Clock’ due to cube-like flowers, Moschatel is a small plant that can form large patches in favoured habitat – usually damp, shady areas, often in deciduous woodland. Moschatel and the other 100 Indicator Species are being used to help monitor the state of nature in Leicestershire and Rutland. All recorders are asked to submit a record whenever one is found.
And while you are recording Moschetel, have a look for the two rusts that live on the leaves and stems and sepals - Puccinia adoxae, with dark brown telia, and Puccinia albescens with pale yellow and white aecia.
