Baird's Sandpiper - Calidris bairdii

Description

A medium sized shorebird, slightly smaller than a Dunlin, and greyish buff with white underparts.  It has long wings so that the primaries project beyond the tail.

A rare but regular autumn visitor from North America.

VC55 Status

Rare.  The record of a juvenile at Rutland Water during October 2025 was widely reported by LRWT, LROS, local BBC and in social media.
