Arge ustulata
Length 7 to 10 mm. All black with a broad body. The wings have an obvious dark 'window' and orange along the veins and leading wing edge.
Arge berberis is the only other dark bodied sawfly recorded in VC55 so far. This has dark legs and no wing cloud.

The larvae live on various trees and shrubs, whilst the adults will take nectar and pollen from flowers such as Hogweed.
Widely distributed in Britain, though seemingly not particularly common.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
