Gymnetron villosulum
A small brown weevil 2-3mm, with long hairs on the pronotum and elytra.
The larvae feed within galls formed in the seed-capsules of water speedwells, usually pink water-speedwell, Veronica catenata, but also Veronica anagallis-aquatica,Veronica beccabunga and Veronica scutellata.
Other Gymnetron cause similar galls on water speedwells. For confirmation, rear the adult weevils from the galls.
Unless identified by a recognised expert, good photos are required that show the key ID features.
The sides of rivers, streams, ponds and other wet places where the host plants are likely to be present.
Notable B. Widespread but local in southern England. Rare or absent elsewhere.
Scarce or under-recorded. Most often recorded as the gall; few confirmed records of adult weevil.
