Parethelcus pollinarius
A small (3 or 4 mm) broad bodied dark brown/black looking weevil with a long snout (rostrum).
Parethelcus pollinarius is broadly similar to Nedyus quadrimaculatus and both are common on nettles. The white spots on the elytra of Nedyus are usually distinctive though early in the year they may be worn - fresh adults appear in mid summer. Parethelcus also has dark tibiae and a large tooth on the underside of the front femur. It also has a projection on the side of the pronotum.
Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Note the beetle's size and describe the identifying characters. It is advisable to retain the specimen in case further checks are needed.
