Hathern Allotments Wildlife Area
Selected Wild Place / Other Wild Places / Public Rights of Way / VC55 boundary
The Wildlife Area is at the end of the allotments, accessed from Shepshed Road.
Note that access is by arrangement only.
Site species count:
The Wildlife Area has been developed from several disused allotment plots and includes a wide range of habitats, including a wildlife pond. A number of apple trees are also present.
The pond provides a central focus and has both Common Frogs and Smooth Newts breeding there. A good diversity of marginal plants are present and a marsh area at one end offers further interest with wildflowers including Common Valerian, Water Figwort and Greater Bird's-foot Trefoil. The mature hedge along the boundary offers more good habitat, as does the meadow and 'wild' area.
